Team Philosophy 2026

 

Recruiting

Head Coaches are required to recruit 5-8 core players for their team. We recommend coaches recruit 2-3 position players and 3-4 pitchers. The team will be comprised of 20-25 players; the composition of the team is as follows:

 

·   Pitchers—9-12

·   Catchers—2-3

·   Infielders—4-5

·   First Base—2-3

·   Outfielders—4-5

 

Pitching

 

The pitching rotation and programs is listed below:

· The number of innings a pitcher throws over the course of the summer will vary based on pitch counts, workload, and effectiveness.

· Teams typically need 3-4 starting pitchers along with 5-7 relief pitchers. This rotation allows pitchers the necessary time to train, recover, and maintain quality arm care during the summer.

· Starter and reliever roles may vary throughout the season depending on team needs and each individual pitcher’s performance and effectiveness.

 

Playing Time

 

Position Players:

• · The first month of games is considered to be a trial period where athletes can prove themselves. After that, the player(s) who present the best opportunity to win ball games will be played, but with room for bench players to get in as well.
• · Every position players will be guaranteed a minimum of 30 plate appearances.  This ensures a quality experience, ample opportunity to prove ones’ self, and sustains the moral of the team.
• · Deep consideration will be given to high profile athletes, followed by the success of the athlete’s regular season.

 

Pitchers:

• · Deep consideration for deciding starts will be given to those who naturally have success starting games. 
• · Pitching roles and innings may shift throughout the season based on team needs and individual development.
• · Both starters and relievers will be given chances to contribute, while maintaining proper workload management.

 

Coaches:

• ·  Coaches will have a relaxed but direct approach to coaching where athletes can compete while continuing to learn and develop.
• · Coaches are expected to empower athletes with constructive feedback.
• · While coaches will have the drive to win, their primary focus will remain on providing a quality experience for all players.
• · Coaches will be sure to address behavioral expectations and will handle any issues with fairness and sensitivity.

• · Recruit a respectful group of players who will represent the Corn Belt League in a respectable matter.
• · Continue to expand on the growth and bond of the team within the community and the Corn Belt Collegiate Summer League.
• · Provide a great family atmosphere that promotes quality baseball to be on display for the fans and future players.
• · Play a consistent and quality brand of baseball throughout the regular and postseason of play.

Players:

• · Give 100% in all activities, whether it is during competition, camps or community service events.
• · Always conduct yourself in a respectable manner while at the ballpark, within the community, and any other place where the CBL Brand is recognized.
• · Be a coachable athlete and have the drive to win at all times.
