The first month of the Corn Belt League season is in the books and the race is heating up! Now it's July and the dog days of summer are here. The team who throws strikes, makes the routine plays, and delivers timely hits will rise to the top as the second half is up for grabs!
Red Raiders (10-3) sit on top of the standings behind a dominant pitching staff. They lead the league in fewest runs allowed and despite scoring the second fewest runs in the league, they started the season red-hot with a 7-0 run.
The Cropdusters have found their rhythm and are flying high in 2nd place as they are riding a 6-game win streak. Their bats have been on fire as they lead the league in runs scored.
The Filthballers, Bombers, and Rail Riders are all within striking distance, each sitting just 2.5 games back from the top spot. The chase is far from over!
The 6th place Haymakers are tougher than their record shows — 5 of their 8 losses have been by just one run. Don’t count them out!
The Black Sox (4-12) sit in 7th, but don’t be fooled. Their offense can compete with anyone! If they can cut down on walks, which currently double that of any other team, they could go on a second-half run like they did last summer.
And the last place Royal Blue Dogs head into July on a 5-game skid, but their offense has been productive being powered by the league leader in batting average. Defensive miscues have been costly, but there’s still time to turn it around for them!
