Every summer, the Corn Belt League gives college baseball players a chance to compete and experience Omaha baseball at its best. What started as an idea to bring high-level summer baseball to our city has turned into something we have been extremely proud of over the years. Here’s a quick look at what makes the league special:
Omaha has always been a baseball town. Since 1928, American Legion Baseball has been part of the community. Since 1950, it's hosted the Men’s College World Series. Since 1969, it's been home to the Kansas City Royals’ Triple-A team. And since 2015, the Corn Belt League has carried that same spirit into the summer months giving college players from across the country the chance to compete and develop right in the metro area.
When the Corn Belt League was created, the goal was simple: help players grow not only on the field, but off of it as well. Since 2016, the league has continued to grow into what now has 8 Omaha-based teams playing a nine week, thirty game schedule.
The league gives players the full summer baseball experience: consistent reps in a competitive environment and the resources to truly get them better. Every player receives a membership to the Strike Zone, where they can train outside of games. We’ve also partnered with the UNO Biomechanics Lab to give pitchers a detailed look at their mechanics and personalized feedback to help them improve on the mound. Before the season begins, players have the option to take part in Dale Carnegie leadership training that I believe is a real game changer. It teaches communication, confidence, and professionalism. These are lessons that matter long after their playing careers are over.
Off the field, we take pride in creating opportunities that make Omaha feel like home. Through our Host Family Program, local families open their doors to out-of-state players and welcome them in as one of their own for the summer. We’ve watched several of those relationships last for years with families attending past-players’ weddings. Lastly, we also connect players with summer jobs and internships that help them earn money and gain experience during the day while still getting to play ball in the evenings. Our hope is that players leave Omaha not only better athletes, but better prepared for life beyond baseball.
The Corn Belt League isn’t just about baseball… it’s about Omaha! As we continue to grow, we’re looking to strengthen those ties across the city. Every bit of support, from partnerships to host families to volunteers, helps us keep Omaha baseball strong and create opportunities that last far beyond the summer. If you’re interested in learning more about how you, your business, or someone you know can get involved, we want to connect with you.
